How To Use A Face Scrub

Posted by Karissa Montania on

When it comes to your skincare routine, learning how to use a facial scrub is one of the key aspects for achieving super-soft skin. The exfoliator works to rid the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, preventing clogged pores and acne. If you're unfamiliar with face scrubs and feel lost on how to properly exfoliate your skin, you're in luck! Here at Elizabeth Mott, we love sharing beauty and skincare tips to help you attain glowing skin. Keep reading for our top facial scrub tips and learn how to incorporate it into your skincare routine.

How often should I use a face scrub?

Facial scrubs offer a number of benefits for your skin, but the exfoliant can be damaging if you overuse it. To prevent micro-tearing of your skin, it's best to stick to using a face scrub two to three times per week. If you use a facial scrub more than the suggested amount, you'll risk causing irritation to your skin. Before using any facial scrub, however, you want to be sure your skin won't have a bad reaction. You can prevent this by gently applying a pea-sized amount of the face scrub to the back of your hand to see how your skin reacts to the new product.

Do I cleanse my face before using a face scrub?

Before using a facial scrub, wet your face with warm water and wash your face with a gentle cleanser. You also want to make sure your skin is dry to damp before applying your face scrub. And since facial scrubs work to remove dead skin cells, you can think of it as a second cleanser! That's definitely a win-win in our book.

Do I use a small amount on my face?

After you've cleansed your face, squeeze a pea-sized amount of the face scrub on your fingertip. Remember, you don't want to overdo it when it comes to applying facial scrubs, and a small amount will be more than enough to slough off any dead skin cells. You also want to make sure you avoid your eye area when applying the face scrub.

What's the correct way to apply the face scrub?

Spread the facial scrub across your face by using circular motions. Remember to massage upwards and be gentle! If you apply too much pressure and press down too hard on your skin, you'll end up damaging your skin since facial skin is thinner than other areas of our body.

How long do I exfoliate?

Massage the facial scrub on your skin for 30 seconds and rinse with warm water. Afterwards, pat your face dry and apply a hydrating moisturizer to protect your skin's barrier. If you're using a face scrub in the morning, you'll also want to use an SPF 30 or higher since your skin will be more sensitive after exfoliation.
